Robotics Club's First Outing

Three of the McMath Robotics teams had their first outing to Fraser Heights Secondary this past weekend. The BC Fall Qualifier tournament. This year’s game, played by the robots and their student drivers, is called Nothing But Net and involves scoring foam game balls into a net placed above the floor. Check out this link for more information on the game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8daR6qBw3M

27 teams competed in six games of round robin play and 24 of those advance to the playoffs. Two of our teams made it through to the playoffs after a morning that involved lots of learning for our rookie teams. The teams went through a roller coaster morning of wins and losses to finish the day in 9th, 26th and 27th place overall.

All of the McMath teams are given the number 17, after they they are identified by a letter. Team 17D, the “Narcissists Anonymous” were selected to part of a three team alliance that finished in second place overall! Congratulations to all of the teams for a great effort!

The Robotics teams also have a request. We are looking for a couple of used laptops to take with us when we travel to tournaments. These can be very basic laptops with a Windows operating system. They will be used to program the robots at tournaments and also in the class as they test the machines. Please contact Allan Byres at abyres@sd38.bc.ca if you find you have such a machine that needs a new home. It will be gratefully accepted and pressed into service right away!
