This letter is in follow up to the communication sent home earlier this afternoon (May 30, 2017) regarding the situation at McMath.
As an additional message was posted on social media late last night (May 29) and came to our attention this morning, we initiated our district protocols and were working with the RCMP, who were on site. As a precautionary measure, students remained in their first block classrooms for an extended period of time as an investigation took place. We would like to thank all our students and staff for the cooperation they demonstrated during this highly unusual circumstance this morning.
As you know, student safety and well-being in our schools is always a priority. We want to assure families that both the Richmond School District and the RCMP take all such messages seriously and work diligently to keep all of our students and staff safe. We also want you to know that tomorrow when students and staff return to school, counsellors will be available for anyone who wishes to debrief concerns.
If anyone has any questions regarding this situation, feel free to contact me.
