Jinja, Uganda is home to many orphans who have no family to call their own. After paying a visit to these spirited children, Barbara Giraud, a woman from Abbotsford, BC, marveled at their contentment and hopefulness in the face of adverse difficulty. The children had no parents, educational resources, or reliable sources of sustenance. However, Barbara decided to change that. Soon after returning to her home, she offered her support by baking her own delicious banana bread recipe.
“Brick by brick, loaf by loaf,” Barbara meticulously baked and sold 12,000 loaves of banana bread. She was the driving force behind the construction of an orphanage for these joyous little angels to call home.
Early this school year, Danielle C. and Jessica P. led a team of 28 dedicated Interactors in contributing to and raising awareness for Jaaja Barb's Home of Angels. On December 19 and 20, 2018, these passionate youth raised over $800 towards funding the operation of the orphanage and providing for vital resources such as food, medicine, school supplies, and facility maintenance. On behalf of the Interactors in the Jaaja Barb's Home of Angels project, thank you to all McMath staff and students and Rotary members who generously purchased our banana bread and supported our cause. Your impact has been remarkable and has truly made a difference. We couldn’t have done it without you!
