SD38 Career Programs for Grade 10 and 11 Students

Dear Grade 10 and 11 Parents,

Did you know ...

  • The Richmond SD38 Career Programs Office offers several post-secondary opportunities for students to engage in during high school (usually grade 11 or 12)?
  •
  • These programs come with an offer of FREE TUITION?
  •
  • These all count for high school credits?

Check out the attached brochure and posters.  Also, check out our website under the programs tab, where you will be able to read about our options that include:

  • 16 post-secondary trades training programs (Students earn Level 1 technical training and are registered apprentices with the Industry Training Authority.)
  •
  • **NEW** - Early Childhood Education Assistant Certificate program in Gr 11 or 12
  •
  • LinK38 - Gr 11 students may take one KPU course in Gr 12
  •
  • STRIVE with KPU - Gr 11 /12 students who do not think they would qualify to take a university course or who identify as BIPOC may take Arts 1100 at the Richmond Campus.  Students on a Dogwood or Evergreen certification qualify for this.

Each program requires students to submit a formal application.  When available, applications will be posted on our website.  Our Youth Train in Trades training application is available now (in the programs tab):

https://careerprograms.sd38.bc.ca

Did you also know, if your child is between 15-19 years of age, is working in a recognized trade, they may be able to count their work hours toward the start of their apprenticeship?  Check out the "Youth Work in Trades" section under our website programs tab.

Finally, for students interested in emergency services, our Richmond RCMP Youth Academy program application is due November 7th.  The application is found here:  https://careerprograms.sd38.bc.ca/programs/rcmp-youth-policing-opportunities

To find out more, come to one of our PARENT INFORMATION SESSIONS on ZOOM.  This November 15th or January 25th (repeat), hear from industry guests from PCL Construction, VCC Culinary Arts Programs and from our ECE program instructor.  We also run two after school Zoom drop-in Q & A Sessions each month (see attached).

Please email careerprograms@sd38.bc.ca if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

The SD38 Career Programs Office Team
