Wildcats! A reminder that there will be no PLT on Thursday, November 10th due to the Remembrance Day assemblies. Class will begin at 8:30 am sharp. Please be on time.

Every year on November 11th, Canadians take a moment of silence to remember the individuals who have served and continue to serve our country in times of war, crisis, and peace. More than 1,500,000 Canadians have served this country, and over 100,000 have died in the process. They sacrificed their lives and futures so that we may live in peace.

This year’s Remembrance Day Ceremony will take place on Thursday, November 10th. Be sure to dress up in formal attire and wear a poppy on your left chest. Poppies will be distributed during Block A. Staff and students are encouraged to make a small donation, with all proceeds going to The Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund. Leadership students will visit classes on Tuesday and Wednesday. This donation will directly assist Veterans in financial distress, as well as fund medical equipment, medical research, home services, long term care facilities, etc. For those students with a study block during Block A, please pick up a poppy from the office.

Attention all cadets who signed up to volunteer at the Remembrance Day Assembly! This is a reminder that we have a drill practice Wednesday right after school in the North Gym.

Don't sleep in and miss this great opportunity!

McMath Leadership is working with the Good Shepherd Ministry again this year to collect Halloween Candy, new wool socks, and warm mittens to provide care packages to those in need on Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. Bins have been placed in the office for collection. Thanks for your support and donations.

Hey Wildcats! McMath's Student Council will be having their annual food drive from November 14th-24th. The Block A class (which will be second block) that brings in the most non-perishable food items and monetary donations will win a class pizza lunch, and feel awesome for giving back to the community. Each food item earns points. Bonus points are given to specific high demand items. Last year, we raised over 1,900 food items. Let’s see if we can beat 2000 this year! Next Monday is PASTA MONDAY - bring in any pasta to earn bonus points for your Block A class.

Tommy Prince of the Brokenhead Ojibway Nation is one of the most-decorated Indigenous war veterans in Canada, having been awarded a total of 11 medals for his service in the Second World War and the Korean War.  Prince was one of 59 Canadians who were awarded the Silver Star during the Second World War, only three of whom also possessed the Military Medal. Tommy Prince was honourably discharged on June 15, 1945 and returned to Canada.

At home, Prince faced racism from the Canadian government. As an Indigenous man, he was not allowed to vote in federal elections — in spite of his wartime service — and was refused the same benefits as other Canadian veterans.
