Principal's Message May 2nd

Dear McMath School Community,

Earlier today, Ecole Secondaire R.A. McMath Secondary School was evacuated due to a fire in a B-wing washroom. I want to assure you that all students and staff were safely escorted to the open field. Fire services attended the scene, as did district staff and the RCMP. The school administration and the RCMP are investigating the cause of this fire. It was determined based on the impact of the fire, that students would be dismissed for the remainder of the school day. In consultation with fire services, it was determined that it was safe for students and staff to collect their belongings.

Staff provided general supervision in the rotunda for those students who needed to remain at school. This area was deemed safe for occupancy by fire services.

I am proud to report that during the evacuation, staff and students remained calm, and our staff followed school procedures and protocols to ensure the safety of our school community.

Classes will resume on Wednesday, May 3rd.

Some students have various belongings in “B” Wing.  It is not safe at this time to gather their items today.  A Renovation company is also working in that area and needs the space to be clear.  Students can gather their items tomorrow.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. Our top priority remains the safety and well-being of our students and staff, and we will continue to keep you informed as more information becomes available.

Sincerely,

Mr. J Johnstone
