Course Planning for 2025-26 Due Feb 19th
As we continue to support your child’s academic journey, we are beginning the program planning process for the upcoming 2025-2026 school year. This is an important time for students to consider their educational goals, career aspirations, and course selections to ensure they are on the right path toward graduation and future success.
At McMath, we are committed to providing students with the guidance and resources they need to make informed decisions. Throughout this process, our counselors and teachers will be available to assist students in selecting courses that align with their interests, abilities, and post-secondary plans—whether that be college, vocational training, the workforce, or another pathway.
To help facilitate program planning, we encourage parents and guardians to engage in conversations with their child about their academic progress and future goals. We will also be hosting a Program Planning Information Session on Thursday, February 13, 2025 at 7:15pm in the McMath Gym, where we will provide an overview of program planning and graduation requirements.
Additionally, students have received a program planning information session from counsellors on February 5, 2025. Counsellors and our Career Advisor, Ms. Carter, are available during the day for students to seek out additional support if needed. We ask that you review their course selections together before finalizing their schedule for the next school year. Once courses are identified, we ask students to enter their selections into their MyEd BC account. MyEd is open from February 6-19 for course input. There is no rush to enter courses, we want students to use the time given to make informed decisions, read the program planning guide, ask questions, etc. Courses are not assigned to students on a first come first serve basis during course selection. Timetabling (the number of sections of each course) is based on the course requests made by students in February. It is essential that students consider the task of choosing courses as a major responsibility because the choices that they make determine the master timetable. Once the master timetable is built, course changes become much more difficult; thus, it is very important that the selection of courses be done carefully. Students do NOT need to hand in a paper copy of their requested courses this year.
Counsellors will be hosting a student session on Tuesday, February 11 during PLT in Ms. Xiao's computer lab (room 12131) on how to enter course requests into MyEd BC.
If you have any questions or need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact your child's counsellor.
We appreciate your partnership in ensuring a successful and fulfilling high school experience for your child.
