Effectiveness of Actions

What are our next steps?

We seek to improve student engagement, social emotional well-being and academic growth at school. Students must feel connection and belonging in order to engage with their learning.

Our community organized and ran a number of student voice forums run by student leaders with support from administration. During one conference day – we focused on SEL, belonging, empathy, integrity, resiliency, diversity and inclusion.

We also did focused professional learning with staff around anti-racism.

We chose these actions because we want to ensure that students feel safe and welcome at school, and that consequently they want to attend school.

We looked at and will continue to look at core competency reflections, student feedback from student voice forums, focus groups, conference days, and survey data such as the MDI and Student Learning Survey, as well as paying attention to attendance rates to see if our actions are making a difference.

If we don’t notice improvement, we will reposition ourselves in the spiral and do additional scanning to see what else is happening for our students.

We will continue to implement these actions and others, as well as  reflect on their effectiveness as we plan for school wide engagement in activities designed to support connections and belonging in the 2025-2026 school year.

We will also be focusing on supporting connections and belonging among our Indigenous students.
