Wildcats helping WIldcats
| An action that we have taken to support our school’s learning focus is: | Teachers, administrators and senior student leaders collaborated to deliver two Grade 8 Skills Learning Sessions the first of which focused on binder organization and organizational skills, and the second of which focussed on note-taking skills. Adults supported student leaders in planning and facilitating a lesson that taught students how to organize their binders, backpacks and workspaces, followed by a lesson on note-taking strategies. The first session emphasized the connection between organization, independence, reduced stress, and academic success. The second focused on the benefits of handwritten note-taking, using the Cornell Notes format, reviewing notes regularly, applying four evidence-based study strategies, organizing time effectively, supporting wellness, and uploading completed Cornell Notes to Teams.

| This action supports our school’s learning focus in the following ways: | The binder organization session supported student success by helping learners develop executive functioning and self-management skills. Students learned practical systems for managing materials, meeting deadlines, and taking responsibility for their learning, leading to increased confidence and readiness to learn. After the session, students reported having better-organized learning materials, increased assignment completion, improved preparedness, and demonstrated growth in organizational skills. The note-taking session strengthened students' ability to engage actively with learning, organize information, and develop effective study habits. By responding directly to student feedback, adults ensured the learning was relevant and immediately applicable. These strategies support student independence, deeper understanding of course content, and improved academic achievement. |
