Today is Black Excellence Day. This is a day to celebrate Black History and to learn more about the contributions of Black Canadians, a history that often gets untold in textbooks and school curricula. Stories about Black Canadians, written by McMath Social Justice students, will be shared during announcements over the next week.

Our first story is about Dr. Alexandra Bastiany. Dr. Bastiany accomplished many things in her lifetime from being the first black valedictorian in her medical school to becoming the first African-Canadian Interventional Cardiologist at the University of Alberta. Dr. Bastiany enjoys working with local communities and organizations to provide them with representation via professional role models. Connecting her skill in cardiovascular disease and her passion in working with communities, Dr. Bastiany has shown excellence in many different ways.

Have you lost your water bottle, shoes, or lunch? Make sure to check the lost and found outside of the office by the microwaves. Unclaimed lunch containers with food inside will be thrown out at the end of each week.

The Reading Riot is off to a great start with 12 ballots already in the ballot box. Congratulations Noa S. and Kiera K., our first prize draw winners! Please claim your prizes in the Library.

Grads! If you have not yet done so, please remember to sign up for your Artona Grad photo time slot. Artona will be here from January 21st to 29th and bookings can be made online through the Artona website.

The SPCA Animals Club will be selling Krispy Kreme donuts to support the Richmond SPCA shelter. Online pre-orders will be available from today until January 17th. In person pre-orders will take place from January 16th to 18th.
