Re: McMath Secondary Structures Decision

Dear McMath Parents/Guardians,

Thank you for your engagement in considering Secondary Structures at McMath. As you know, students, parents/guardians, and all staff participated in the secondary structures survey process which provided our school and the district with insight into perspectives regarding organizational structures such as the timetable and Personal Learning Time (PLT).

As you will recall information on both linear and semester structures were shared with Parent Advisory Council (PAC) members at the January 17th meeting and with students on February 8th prior to both groups participating in the online surveys. Parents/guardians participated in the survey between February 6-13th. Students participated in the survey during class time on February 9th and 10th. After reviewing the data and process documents, it is noted that the survey participation rates for students and parents were greatly increased over last year, with 1018 students and 740 parents completing surveys this year in contrast to 608 students and 435 parents participating last year. Additionally, results from this year’s process mirrors those attained the previous year; that is, student, parent/guardian surveys indicate a preference for a semester structure that includes PLT, while a small majority of staff prefer a linear structure that includes PLT.

After thoughtful consideration of the school-based data, staff, student and parent perspectives, it has been decided to continue with the semester timetable incorporating PLT at McMath.
