Social Justice 12 students would like to encourage McMath to celebrate Black History Month and will be sharing biographies of important African Canadians all February. Did you know that the man called “father of British Columbia” was Sir James Douglas, a man born in British Guyana? While a controversial figure, he was knighted for his achievements which included establishing what would become the city of Victoria, BC.

Tomorrow, Friday, March 1st is McMath’s Digital Detox Day.  We are asking everyone to keep their phones at home or turn them off and keep them in your locker or backpack.  Let’s be present with the people around you and enjoy our Digital Detox. 

Wildcats!  Get ready to step onto the red carpet because our Night in Hollywood school dance is just around the corner!  Mark your calendars for Tuesday, March 12th from 6:00-8:00 pm.  The dance in open to grades 9, 10, and 11.  Tickets are $5.00 and will be on sale in front of the office at lunch until March 6th. Tickets are not available for purchase on the day of the dance.
 
Attention all past and present Leadership students, interested in gaining more volunteer hours over Spring Break? Come to Mr. Hass’ room A105 to learn more about the annual Easter event at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery.

Congrats to the Grade 9 Girls Basketball team, who will be busy this week at the provincials, we wish them luck in their first-round game, later today! Go Wildcats!

Congratulations to the Sr. Girls Basketball team for their win yesterday in the opening round of the Girls Provincial Championships!  The team beat #6 ranked Duchess Park from Prince George 50-39 to advance to the next round.   The team got off to a slow start but came on strong in the second half to pull ahead for the victory.  Mirella F. led the way offensively with 18 points and was named Player of the Game.  Tiana M. and Emi N. chipped in with timely scoring as well in the second half to seal the victory.  The girls play this afternoon against South Kamloops for a spot in the semi-finals. Good luck in today’s game!

Attention to anyone interested in playing for the McMath Girls Soccer team.  Tryouts will begin next week on Tuesday and Thursday, 3:15 pm at Hugh Boyd Secondary turf.

Senior boys interested in playing Rugby on a joint McMath/Boyd team, please go to practice at 3:15 pm today at Hugh Boyd Grass field. See Mme Scarr for more info.

Junior Rugby Players: Practice coming up, Tuesday March 5th, Wednesday March 6th and Thursday March 7th.  Please get your completed forms into the office.  Remind your parents that we have a Parent Meeting after practice on Tuesday March 5th.
