Student Voice

Two years ago, we first surveyed students to see what made them happy; we found that happiness does not lie in a letter grade. A letter grade only made them happy for that particular instance in time, but it was not long lasting. A vast majority of students pointed out that they were most happy when they had friends and felt that they mattered. With this data, one of our goals last year was to have more equity and inclusion in the school. We started with the Arts Dept and looked at all the artists students studied. Our teachers wanted to ensure an even representation of famous artists. We want to show our students that there are many famous artists who are not the stereotypical male European.

This year, we wanted to continue with the theme of what makes students happy and focused on ensuring their voice matters.  Our French Immersion department has been working on finding ways to integrate student voices and perspectives in the creation of learning maps for their assessment.
